Focus on Atlantic City
The South Jersey Transportation Authority’s mandate is to advance regional growth through infrastructure improvements on the Atlantic City Expressway and at the Atlantic City International Airport. These projects enhance accessibility for tourism and commerce, as well as employment opportunities in the region.
In 2007, more than 33 million travelers utilized the Authority’s transportation services and roadways to reach Atlantic City’s premiere attractions. The city offers an array of exciting attractions that draw visitors from all over the country and the world. Features include:

Atlantic County has the highest share of State Tourism Expenditure when compared to any other county in New Jersey. Core Tourism (which measures the size of the industry directly providing goods and services to the visitor) generates billions in economic value every year. In addition, hundreds of thousands of jobs are created by travel and tourism economic activity, accounting for a significant amount of total employment in the state.
Exciting 2008-2009 debuts and developments in Atlantic City include:
- A 47-story, 964-room hotel tower built to expand Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City. The facility includes an indoor swimming pool that measures more than 23,000 square feet!
- The Chairman Tower at Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort –a 39-story, $255 million tower that includes 782 rooms.
- The Water Club at Borgota – A new 800-room non-casino hotel, which includes five pools and features a new spa, Immersion, which focuses on water’s healing properties.
- Eco-friendly initiatives, including the installation of a large roof-mounted solar array on the Atlantic City Convention Center and a look into the feasibility of wind turbines in the ocean.
- An entirely smoke-free casino expected to be completed in 2010.
