Discover Charleston

A coastal city known for its historic streets, waterfront views, and a pace that feels slower in the best way.

Historic Downtown and Waterfront Views

Charleston’s historic district is what people picture when they think of the city. The streets are lined with old homes, churches, and small details that make it feel different from anywhere else.

You’ll pass through areas with cobblestone streets, hidden alleys, and rows of pastel houses that have been there for generations. Along the water, places like The Battery and Waterfront Park give you open views of the harbor, with sailboats, palm trees, and plenty of spots to sit for a while.

Food and Going Out

Charleston is known for its food, especially seafood and Lowcountry staples. You’ll find everything from casual spots serving fried shrimp baskets to restaurants focused on fresh oysters, local fish, and dishes like shrimp and grits.

King Street is the main area for going out, with a mix of restaurants, bars, and shops all in one stretch. It stays busy at night but never feels overwhelming, and it’s easy to move from one place to another without much planning.

Beaches and Time on the Water

One of the best parts of Charleston is how close everything is. Within 20–30 minutes, you can be at the beach.

Folly Beach tends to be more laid-back, while Isle of Palms and Sullivan’s Island are quieter and more residential. Each has its own feel, but all are easy to get to and good for a full or half day.

Back in the city, the water is always nearby. Harbor walks, boat tours, and even just sitting along the marina are part of the experience.

Local Shops and Neighborhoods

Beyond the main streets, Charleston has smaller areas filled with local shops, coffee spots, and galleries. Some streets are quieter, lined with trees and tucked-away homes, while others are more active with boutiques and restaurants.

It’s easy to spend time just wandering, stopping into places as you go, and finding parts of the city that feel a little less busy.

A Slower Pace That

Stays With You

Charleston doesn’t feel rushed. You can take your time, walk almost everywhere, and still feel like you’ve seen a lot without packing your schedule.

It’s a place where a few simple plans, walking downtown, getting a good meal, and spending time by the water, end up being more than enough.
